Is Don Jon a Dark Knight of romantic comedies ?
17:52.
Be honest in your hate and love of a film. Example, seeing lying neckbeards lie about Star Wars is very common. They ignore the facts, (misrepresent the plot and the intent) and just spew their hate without a why..... and it's easier to anything than praise.
Good taste in movies is not equal to high intelligence.. Some of the smartest people I know had the worst taste.
I'm not sure if you'll read this given how old this video is but the reason why you're my favorite film reviewer on FRclip is highlighted in what you mentioned and there's a few points I'd like to make.
- You always have a sense of balance in your critiques even if the movie is utter Horseshit which is really important.
- You come across as someone that's extremely passionate about movies and film making.
- You're very good at communicating and being able to relate to your viewers.
- I watch your reviews at different times. Sometimes before I see a film and I'm unsure about if I want to bother paying money to go and see it at the theater or alternatively after seeing something that had a profound effect on me (good or bad) and seeing how it resonated with you and 99% of the time I always get what I'm looking for - a balanced and well thought out overview that I can relate to as a passionate film lover.
- You just seem like a really cool guy that shares my love for movies and even on the odd occasion where I have disagreed with some of the points you've made they're always measured and valid points and I have a lot of respect for the way you conduct your reviews.
Keep up the great work Chris from a passionate Aussie film lover.
youtube ruined commercial free viewing forever!
this is brilliant
12:36 BEST SHIRT EVER!
You inspire me daily, Chris! I’ve just started a channel and I really want to be seen as a film critic.
Best critic out there, man. Keep it up
Best critic out there, man. Keep it up
I think every person entitled to their own opinion but I feel as if these FRclip critics pander to a mainstream audience reviewing popular movies (which I can't blame them. Views, am I right?) and don't really contribute to anything. I do like their enthousiasm and I'm sure they're passionate about movies but with a medium like this I feel it's a missed opportunity to introduce lesser known movies or simply movies that you like. For me, they don't come across as credible reviewers because their knowledge about cinema is very limited.
Dare to review a foreign movie, an animated movie, a classic movie, an art house movie. Shake it up a bit and challenge yourself. It's easy to please a young audience applauding the next Marvel movie and tearing apart an obvious trainwreck like The Emoji Movie. Happy holidays y'all!
Rex Reed is one of the most "holier than thou, way above you" type of reviewers, ever.
Loved this video. I've watched several film reviews here on FRclip but I kept coming back to you for the very reasons you point out.. Yes, you entertain me and have made me laugh my sopcks off, but I find so much information about films I hadn't seen before such as the Transformers franchise. After watching review I opted to purchase the collection. Will I agree with you or find a marvelous movietime experience (probably both) but still I'm giving the films a chance. Thank you for what you do, Chris!
I love all of this!
Great video! It would be great if you would do a real review, on the last jedi. Do more of these videos.
18:40 the white guy on the left is a snob, who think he's better than everybody
THIS WAS AMAZING recently I started a channel and I didn't exactly know what to do with it. But now I've decided I'm going to peruse my passion for film on my FRclip channel. If love some feedback posting my next video tomorrow.
Shout-out to this being the first time I saw Jeremy Jahns breathe.
This is an amazing video! Thanks so much"
I do agree Chris stuckmann We are all entitled to our opinion But usually in opinion have some basis of the issue at topic it's not really an opinion if most critics will find something that really wasn't an issue in the film because it wasn't there and adding things to it that are impossible to find because it just simply wasn't there they needed something to criticize of that's what they did that's not an opinion in my opinion It's called a lie usually an opinion comes from an unbiased different side point of view that's not an opinion it's called slander I do think a lot of movie critics mostly should not even have their jobs instead of being praised that's my personal opinion
Chris Stuckmann Then if you do that then you are a rare critic and if critics are supposed to do that they were taught that in school than you just prove to everyone the truth about critics most critics don't do their job correctly which makes criticism in my personal opinion pointless if no one's going to take your advice and it's true most critics will actually get out there and this is true you can go look at comments and you completely see how did they even criticize a movie didn't even have that issue in the film it sounds like they just added something to their to find something to criticize about and that's what they do if they can't find something to criticize they will actually add an issue into the movie that should have never been there at all instead of finding an actual issue With the film It's like yeah they are taught that in school but when they get out in the real world it's like they're expected to make a badd reviews of the going to find a way to make it happen even if they have to lie Which is my I will never trust the critics because the critics Are terrible at their jobs and honestly instead of being praised they should honestly lose jobs if they're not going to give an actual unbiased opinion that's how critic was supposed to be but that's how Hollywood Never has been You would think these big shot critics that get so much praise would be big shot people but no they're small in insignificant because they don't do their job right and not not worth looking at if anything they should be giving more praise to the audience for actually giving an unbiased opinion they should be making the money and getting a lot of praise Getting the critic jobs because it's been proven by the biased facts in most movies that get criticized wrongfully that Most critics don't do well in their job but get praise like they do well in their job
Chris Stuckmann In fact if other positions were like movie critics nurses for example would probably be fired because they would mess up critics are usually messing up actually
that's really a great video
I agree more with Jahns, about the difference between Reviewer and Critic.
I'm glad I watched this. I learned a lot, took notes, and plan to move forward from this point on using this advice. Thank you Chris
Chris: If you have an opinion, and it's your opinion, keep it that way!
Mauler: I always argue that films are objectively good or bad... If you think that "The Last Jedi" is good, good luck calling other movies bad.
I feel like too many people have forgotten these important tips in the wake of "The Last Jedi."
You have proven yourself a movie aficionado and fan . Some no doubt are in it for the easy youtube money and big number of hits. I have a music passion I will put on youtube but no doubt will get all of 9 hits, oh well I aint in it for the money
The film critic in our local paper I always go 180 degrees on what s/he says.
Also if 100 people tell me a film is great or sucks I want ro see it for myself. Cloud Atlas and the last Mad Max movie got trashed by a bunch of people.
You can't rate them on the same merits. Like you say they are different. Judging on technical aspects only goes so far.... shitty technique takes away from the experience.
Really enjoyed this. I love films! Make it a niche!
Really enjoyed this video, Chris! Good stuff!
Damn, that was an evil "Stuckmannized" at the end there! hahaha
Dude, you and Jeremy have always been my favourite 2 since like 2013, and I agree with what you/he said. I've always seen you guys and others on here as movie reviewers and not critics. That's why you guys always even refer to critics as a third party, because they aren't what you are! :)
Hi chris stuckmann I have a question where is the line drawn between an criticism and personal taste?
I feel so embarrassed by what my original comment was.
Great Collaboration ! I was really happy to see Jeremy Jahns and the Schmoes chime in. I like to read written reviews on IMDB before I watch a movie in theaters because it is a fast, but after I see a movie, if I feel strongly about it, I love to watch video reviews to revisit favorite scenes and feel like I am discussing it with a friend !
kinda contradicting with your "Emoji movie" review, LOL. understandable though
I live in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro and the way we do our "SATs" here, at least in regards to the essay part of the exam, is through this very boring and inhuman approach of not being personal.
I mean....REALLY?! We are human beings with emotions, for crying out loud. Much harder than being extremely rhetorical and fancy and robotic and knowledgeable is being able to articulate your own emotions so as to communicate with someone else and at least attempt to bring some meaning and emotion to that person's life. And Chris, you do that beautifully. Well done, man. Your nerdiness is your voice, your deep observations make up your voice and your passion for movies is your voice. And your voice comes through as motivational and joyful.
the lighting needs work, but this is the freakin avengers of youtube reviewers, I am surprised this isn't more popular... all your recent reviews have over 600k each, this is amazing I wish there was more like it
😡
How long has this been shit going oooooooonnnnnn.......
I enjoy how you critic movies. I am pretty discabled. Your pros and cons and opinion helps me know if a movie is worth my valuable time or not
can you do a series on annoying moviegoers? those are fucking hilarious!
Gene Siskle did some things that I think were really petty. He spoiled Friday the 13th with the hope it would hurt it's box office performance just because he didn't like it.
Great video
Pauline Kael talked about getting high on films. She'd cite Brian De Palma, Spielberg and so on who create that high, and about films being "alive" she even says Exorcist 2 is tho misgiuded, still alive. Bravo, you know films Chris.
Thanks. ✌🏾
quality xxxx
There is still room for more. There aren’t enough critic of colors. We don’t get enough access. Plus the more diverse you have the more perspectives and better conversation
The more I watch your videos, the more I admire you. You're an awesome, compassionate, insightful person. Thanks for being fucking rad!
Tell that to the sonic fan base...
Besides Chris Stuckmann I watch and listen to these critics.
James Rolfe (Cinnemassacre)
Doug Walker (Nostalgia Critic)
Marcus (Cosmonaut Variety Hour)
I hate this retard
Awww Jeremy tried.. lol. he gives me hope bcs i too am tht same tyoe of peraon who extend sentences just cs i want to convince ppl everything i understand about tht concept. If im passionate about smthing I repeat myself a million times
Ironically, I've read Ebert reviews where he spent half of it running through the plot and stort beats.
god chris do you really get so many idiotic comments
r3sp3ct
How to be a movie critic, 1) Open blog/vlog. 2) Read the synopsis and pretend you've watched the movie 3) Score everything 95-100 so as not to upset anyone, especially 'sponsors'. Movie reviewers on the whole are such a grossly corrupt cabal of paid liars, honest ones are a rare breed.
I am incredibly passionate about film, but I'm just not on board with your populist movie reviews. I do wish you the best though. I'm afraid I'm just not your audience.
This is exactly what I needed to see I’ve been wanting to start a review channel since I was in high school but I had no idea how to start up. this video has inspired me thank you Chris and thank you everyone who was involved in this video
The Dark Knight is extremely overrated.
emil engen can you explain in-depth why you didn't like it?
Thank You for the advice
Thank you, Chris, so much for making this video. It is so refreshing to hear someone I look up to and admire talk about film criticism in a very passionate and insightful way. I am a film reviewer myself. I have been doing it for over a year now and as much as Stephen King has inspired me to write horror, you and the others I have subscribed to, Doug Walker, Lindsay Ellis, Stupendous Wave, etc, have inspired me to chase my other dream of being a film reviewer. Watching this video has given me a lot to think about with regard to re-inventing my style and coming up with new and creative ways to present my videos. Much to learn, I still have, as Yoda would say, but I am enjoying every moment of the creative process. Every time I watch either yours or any of the other reviewers I have previously mentioned, I feel as if I am home again. That I am sitting at home on the couch drinking my coffee and talking about movies with like-minded people who I greatly respect. Thank you, Chris, once again for doing what you do best and for inspiring me to follow my passion. You are truly awesome and, of course, I"ll be checking out those who you featured in your video as well.
God Bless this man.
I disagree with the part about separating the artist from the artistry. It taints my experience of a movie to watch(for instance woody allen) because all I can think is how terrible that human being is while I watch a movie and that's an experience that a lot of people have. That is a legitimate reason for a movie experience to be not so great(as much as it's true that so many people work on a movie and it's a shame when one actor fucks up but that's a reality)
My one problem with film or any critics is those that criticise but don't give a solution to the problem; like why did it suck and in your opinion what would you do to change it?
So... Are you going to re-review Interstellar?
when you said you will reckognize these people,
i expected to reckognize at least one person..... i didnt
Thank you for this video, Chris. It was very helpful.
Hey Chris,
I just wanted to thank you for this video and always being really open and honest with your reviews and yourself. I started my channel a few months ago without really knowing how to do what I wanted to do. You were a huge inspiration for me to become better and I just wanted to thank you for all that you've done for this community. It could have been really easy for you to just review movies and not get involved with those who watch your reviews, but you give back with videos like this, and that means a ton to people like me who want to get into this field.
Thank you!
Мужик, ты даже не представляешь, какая у тебя четкая речь. Для того, кто прокачивает аудирование, ты просто находка. Спасибо тебе.
So handsome, love the tie
I enjoyed this topic and your presentation. I enjoyed SOME of your guests - There were a few (really one) segment that was just wrong. Yes, everyone has an opinion, but their perspective were just wrong - It was off putting. I won't say who it was, but I'm surprised that no one else commented on what was relayed.
Great video, Chris.
Pretty much it is a great, underrated film review channel. I found Pretty much it by seeing their "On golden pond" film review!
Cole Smithey is a terrible film critic. He fulminates well-made films without even recognizing their positive qualities. He gives Logan a grade F (less than zero stars). Film criticism is truly subjective and ultimately pointless--unless for analysis. He must be a contrarian.
Jeremy Jahns😃
Jeremy Jahns and Chris Stuckmann. My two favorite Reviewers that I would love to see a crossover between.
"That was my friend FatMovieGuy, now lets move to people i really respect." LOL :D
I know this is an old video, I´m not from a place where there are a lot a guys like you, and I respect every single one of you, I follow you for plenty of years by now. Thanks for being this awesome.
Is that jake valdeno
If i give review, im a say what i think and go on, there's too much thing about movie criticism, rules that i really don't feel and kills my vibe so
Hi, i love watching your reviews. you always see something i miss, so many cool details! The reason i decided to write was to say that it would help if you could put subs on videos when it's difficult to hear what's being said. in this video, for instance, when you're talking on the phone it's really hard to hear what the man is saying (sorry, i forgot his name heh). and i just realised this is a super old vid so maybe you have started doing that now or you haven't had the need tyo do it again.. anyhow.. I wanted to give my opinion on that :p keep doing what you are doing! oh! where do you buy your tshirts?? xD the one with sailor moon in wonder woman costume is epic!!
u should have an "S" grade
"When you make a critic, imagine that you are talking to your friends at the bar" OH MY GODNESS those words!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am awakened.
List of female movie reviewers on youtube?
I was waiting for Jeremy
A couple quick rebuttals, with all due respect.
1. Critics infuse current events into reviews because movies often do. Movies often say things about the world around us in the time they were made. It is important to look at the events and politics of the time the film was made to fully understand it. And who the person is who made the film says something about the film. Who is this director? What about them can inform this film?
2. If all critics were just "regular average guys" then who can we learn from? I would like to hear from critics who are smarter and more educated than me so I can learn.
I can listen to you talk all day. Don’t know why
Great video. I've been reviewing movies live on Facebook for almost a year now @LexTalksMovies ✌🏽😎🍺. I totally agree with you and the guests on a lot of what was said. I love movies and started writing out reviews and was told "Why can't you just do a video?" So that's how I got my start. Just a guy who loves movies and couldn't wait to talk about what I watched. It's really awesome to see so many of you have the same passion and outlooks. Thanks for this video and your reviews! 🍻
Great video Chris. This really affected my views of film criticism
I'm interested in starting my own film criticism channel and I took notes on your pointers, they certainly helped a lot and I now know where to start! Thanks! Question: Do I have to put movie clips in my review? I mean I know I don't HAVE to, but will my review be boring if I don't?
Critics in general are people full of shit. They think they know it all but at the end of the day they are people who get free stuff and talk shit like entitled little brats.
I love that Jeremy dropped the "I grew up on..." line
OH MY GOD JEREMY ON A STUCKMANN VIDEO?? THANK YOU GOD
Man, Jake Baldino is everywhere!
Yeah, I had this problem that my opinion swayed because of a friend of mine who had a different opinion (my friend hate the Nolan's Batman movies). But this kinda thing has been a problem with me for a pretty long time.
I guess I need to rewatch the franchise again to form my opinion again since I've seen lots of great FRcliprs show the inner workings of movie making. And thanks to my friend, I'm really hooked into analysing movies; talking about them; knowing the inner workings, etc.
Great video Chris
I would love to be a film critic as a job, and do make some reviews and this video really helped me to become a little bit better so thank you.
This video is going to help me start my career as a film reviewer on my own site. It inspired and helped inform me so much with what I need to do.
Please review Better watch out Ft the kids from the visit
Subbed almost instantaneously...
