Federer, Djokovic and Thiem are Superman. The kryptonite (supermans ultimate weakness) is the slower clay courts and Nadal which gives him more than enough time to set up and destroy.

Story Of The Day :No match really.
Jokovich should have been in final so that we could see some match
Annhilation was always on cards moment Nole lost to Thiem in semis.
What a shame for the game that exit of Jokovich because all the pantheons awaited Nadal-Joko final not a tame one-sided affair

    • 88feji
      88feji Il y a 6 mois

I think you're just disappointed that Thiem ended Novak's hope of getting his bragging rights of 4 in a row .. I do admire Novak's ability too, but as you yourself said before, a win is a win .. you seem to think anyone who wins against Novak must be due to Novak being unfairly disadvantaged but when Novak wins its never due to the opponent being unfairly hampered by things ...
Come on, live up to your own words.. a win is a win .. give Thiem due credits ... Thiem is one of the few players who have the ability to penetrate Novak's defence .. he stands a good chance anytime he meets Novak anywhere, not just French Open ...

    • Syed Ameel Gardezi
Syed Ameel Gardezi Il y a 6 mois

@Gherbi Hicham Yes that's why I wanted Nole to play Rafa in final as you always want best 2 featuring.
Nole has track record behind him toprove the claim but Thiem has always lost either in semis or finals a bit like a choker tag for SA in cricket on big stage hope you get what I am saying

    • Gherbi Hicham
      Gherbi Hicham Il y a 6 mois +1

Djokovic would have probably lost to Nadal with a heavier score, I still think Thiem would have lost anyway even if he didn't play the Djokovic just a day before but his score would have been a lot closer to what we actually got.

    • Syed Ameel Gardezi
Syed Ameel Gardezi Il y a 6 mois

@Sidhanth Mishra Well Back him to hilt but you need to develop an eye to spot the long race horse.
Murray and Potro were exceptional in their rights too but never floated at same pedigree as the big3.
Give yourself some consolation yet to be a real Slam winner you have to have skills. And endless endurance not just a sharpshooting ability.
For me Thiem may hardly win a slam or 2 like Andy Murray but will take a lot of gloss of others taste on the way just to make it sour by losing in finals Come on we need epic rivalries in sport. We can only say once he gets on a roll.Atm I am afraid the sheen was take out of the title.Sorry

    • Sidhanth Mishra
      Sidhanth Mishra Il y a 6 mois

@Syed Ameel Gardezi That tells me you are awed by his power and you should be. But it's not just power. He has wonderful touch and feel. Have you seen his drop shots? The question is how will you counter it? Listen to rafas interview. He worked his way to net and finished points there from good positions. Nole was suicidal. Against thiems power you have to be strategic. Rafa was, Novak was not. The conditions are the same for everyone. Full stop. How do you think Rafa lost a set 6-0 against him and won in 5 sets. If I recall he did the same to Novak once in 2017 (6-0). So you know the power of his ground game. He is a special player. Appreciate his game. Not everyone can do this to two hall of famers.

Now this is where I believe Thiem played a spoilsport by ousting Nole in semis because I believe Nole would have been an ideal finalist to give some fight to Rafa in Final.Given he has already defeated Rafa in 2015 quarters, only the 2nd man to do so in RG mud. Also took him to 5 sets in 2013 semis I guess.Has a decent record on clay.
Although Thiem certainly played better in semis aganst Nole and no doubt was a deserved winner but Nole looked perturbed by the conditions more than focusing on his game which he usually is very good at in tough situations
I reckon Thiem played a party pooper for Nole because his annhilation was on cards in final and Jokovich would have been a much better fight for Rafa not so the Thiem.
Up your intensity Nole in RG.You are indeed a master of your art in other slams already but dust belongs to Vamos Raf.
    Good luck Nole next year

    • Gherbi Hicham
      Gherbi Hicham Il y a 6 mois

@Syed Ameel Gardezi Well I'm mainly putting things in context, I'm not saying it's not deserved, Nadal reached his lowest ranking at the French Open in 2015 since his first grand slam win in 2005, he was playing some terrible tennis by his standards.
One needs to point out the colossal effort done by Soderling to win against Nadal in 2009, as he actually took out a version of Nadal that was considered unbeatable, it is by far the most chocking loss of tennis history as well as the biggest upset to date.

Djokovic came close in 2013 but let's be honest here, that was a copy of their Australian Open 2012 match, Nadal should have won that match in 4 sets, he was ahead by a break two times in the fourth set and actually served for the match before getting broken and then losing the tiebreak, he won the third set quite comfortably with a 6-1 score, of course all we remember here is Djokovic leading by a break in the fifth set, just like all we remember of their Australian Open match is Nadal winning at 4-2 in the fifth.

    • 88feji
      88feji Il y a 6 mois

Sorry but before this Thiem has beaten Novak on clay too .... he even bageled Novak ... You're underestimating Thiem's ability, Thiem is young so he can still improve and maybe even win grand slams in the future ..
Lastly, it part of tennis to cope with the court conditions such as heat, wind, roof, moisture etc .. All tournaments have some challenging elements for the players to cope with, whoever copes the best, wins ..
Doesn't that make the player more deserving for his towering resilience as a sportsman ?

    • Syed Ameel Gardezi
Syed Ameel Gardezi Il y a 6 mois

@Gherbi Hicham A win is a win.Why do people forget he took him right down to wire in 2013 semis too and beaten him in other clay tournaments quite a few times.
Pointless to bleat about Nadal loss in 2015.Just admire Nole as an all-round package and no one race horse like Thiem.Who don't want to see legends playing on final climax? Is Thiem a legend or what?
Nole is a legend folks.Thiem needs to prove his mettle first.Get on the mark first otherwise this game has seen many a punts come and go without any notice.
A player of the class of Andy and Potro could not be classed as legends. And Thiem is still a Semis material by far

    • Gherbi Hicham
      Gherbi Hicham Il y a 6 mois +1

The only reason Djokovic won in 2015 was because Nadal was having his worst season ever, Djokovic didn't even win the title that year and lost to Wawrinka, Nadal would have lost to anyone in that tournament, he wasn't himself.
