  • What better way to celebrate the Hysteria 25th anniversary than with a deep cut off the Adrenalize album. :)
Anyway, really cool song with some great little bridges and mid sections and all that. If you want to hear a higher mix of the solo then check out my solo cover I did last year and if you want to learn it then I have a solo tutorial as well.

It’s common knowledge that Steve wrote the guitar for this song. I’m curoius as to what if any the original lyrics may have been and were they changed to reflect Steve’s life and passing. 🔥

    • bwm5150
      bwm5150  Il y a 6 mois +1

Could be either, it's hard to know for sure on a lot of these things.

bwm5150 They may have omitted his credit in a way to not make it seem he was writing his own obituary for lack of a better way to put it. If not, then the info I gathered that Steve wrote the song is incorrect and Phil wrote it in Steve’s style to be reflective as the lyrics are.🔥

    • bwm5150
      bwm5150  Il y a 6 mois

Steve doesn't have a writing credit on this one but does on other Adrenalize tracks. I'm not sure how much involvement he had with this one even though it does feature the instrumentation style he developed.

Here is my story of the adrenalize album. When i was 13 and adrenalize came out MTV was new in my country and i would spent almost all day watching it.GNR, Metallica , Europe, Roxette, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Bon Jovi,Bryan Adams were in heavy rotation.Suddenly i hear Do you wanna get rocked? What is this? Its so melodic. And then i wondered: I hear two guitars but i see one guy playing (13 years old...)...I hear backing vocals from a lot of people and i hear regular drums but holy s..t the drummer has one arm and the bass player has a bass with 5 strings!!!I bought Adrenalize on cassette the next day and i was amazed from the melodies and especially white lightning.During that summer of 1992 there was an ice cream commercial playing on TV with an intro of a rock song (she is so dangerous, shotgun!!!) which got me thinking wait a minute these backing vocals remind me of Def Leppard, they sound familiar to me.So the next day i decided to buy the previous def leppard album and there was Don't shoot shotgu , the song on the commercial...

Don't know how to explain it but I'm doing alternate picking (upstrokes and downstrokes)and yeah I think I'm overpicking it when you don't really have to. I'm not sure. It's just the way I do those fast parts. Sorry if that doesn't really help.

Although Phil obviously played all the guitar parts on the album version of this track, I really get the sense that alot of the Rythm parts were played trying to emulate Steve's style of play, and the middle part of the solo also. As always you nailed it on all levels.

The harmonic sounds on the intro are caused by the guitar sustain feedback.

How do you get your tone so full yet so piercing at the same time? And the sustain - man you've absolutely dialed in the Def Leppard guitar tone!

    • bwm5150
      bwm5150  Il y a 3 ans

A crunchy overdrive with a compressor on it gives me good sustain with a bright sound. A metal pick helps the attack pierce also but I don't always use one. I think I was using one here though.

    • bwm5150
      bwm5150  Il y a 4 ans +1

+David Zello Cheers David. Tone wise I think I got a bit of luck when just trying to find a sound I liked. I seemed to just stumble upon a sound that worked for me that was ideal for covering Def Leppard. Accuracy wise just comes from listening to the songs so much that with some of them, I could sing individual parts from memory. That helps when learning the songs.

Excellent work, my friend! I really like how you achieved the "sound" of DL without the expense! I've been playing 35 years and use the same Strat I got back then. I ended up going with the Fender Cyber-twin amp for my sound set-ups instead of the Boss ME/hi-filter setup to achieve the same sound. Keep up the good work and rock on!

    • Larry Byrd
      Larry Byrd Il y a 3 ans

+bwm5150 Hello, friend! After my comments about the quite expensive rig setup I have to achieve the "Def Leppard Sound", I'm completely humbled to have seen my 15 year-old nephew whom I've been teaching for the past 2 years achieve the same sound with an Ibanez accoustic w/pickup, a pawn-shop Peavey Bandit amp (that I had to repair) and of all things a $50 Zoom G1ON multi-effects pedal. His total expense? $400. (That's what I get for teaching him how to program the pedal and giving him a yard to mow to earn money!) LOL! He "saved" about $4500 more than me for the same sound.

    • bwm5150
      bwm5150  Il y a 4 ans

+Larry Byrd Cheers. I never really thought of my sound as being Def Leppard like until people started telling on these vids. I always just went for a sound I wanted and as I've said in other comments, I guess it's natural I got one similar. I think you could get a decent sound with anything and I could probably improve mine with better gear but I've never found the need to do that just yet. My wallet is thankful for that. :)
